The BEST Face Masks

Hello lovelies! Welcome back to the blog, I hope everyone enjoyed a nice Memorial Day.

So, now that it is warmer weather, does this mean we can put away out full coverage foundation and show off our fresh, bare skin? I hope so!

One of my absolute favorite skin care products are face masks. I think we all enjoy a good face mask all year round, but during the summer it is really a great way to easily get glowing, clean skin without a lot of work. It does the work for you!

BUT, you need to choose the right one for your skin type.

I think a lot of us are under the impression that a mask needs to get tight, itchy, and pull out our blackheads in order to clean the skin. False! A mask does not need to get hard, or rip out the peach fuzz to effectively help your skin. In fact, my favorite masks are ones that stay mostly wet after leaving them on for the recommended time. Since my skin is oily and often gets congested in my T-Zone, I do look for a mask that can purify the skin that will leave me glowing and feeling fresh, without drying me out.

We have all seen a variation of this face mask online..

PSA: these masks are super harsh!! I know that we all like clean pores, but the masks that require rubbing and ripping off usually are causing some trauma to the skin as well. There are many other ways to effectively clean the pores without causing pain and damage (chemical exfoliant serums and moisturizers, facials with an esthetician, gentle enzyme exfoliants).

So before you buy the $2.99 mask of pure torture that really doesn’t do much to the skin…think about some of these options instead!

OLEHENRIKSEN Cold Plunge Pore Mask

(3 oz $36)

(Sephora.com)

  • Best suited for: Oily, Combination, Normal skin. Helps with dullness, cleans out pores, balances the skin to help with oil production

This mask is super bright blue and stays very creamy and thick.

It is ultra-cooling, like the name suggests. However, it does not burn or cause itchiness like some cold products can. It feels very fresh and when I remove with warm water, my skin always looks amazing and feels so soft! The ingredients are really good in this too: avocado oil, peppermint oil, kelp extract…and it smells like a spa.

-When I am not feeling particulary congested and oily, but want to have a more even complexion, I choose this next one.

ORIGINS Hello, Calm Relaxing & Hydrating Face Mask with Cannabis Sativa Seed Oil

(2.5 oz $28)

(Sephora.com)

  • Best suited for: Dry or combination skin. Helps combat dryness and soothe redness

This mask is super creamy, with a mild green hue.

It does smell slightly herbal, but not too much. I love the ingredients in this product! The cannabis sativa oil soothes and nourishes, is rich in omega-3 and omega-6 which are great for your skin health. This mask also stays moist and leaves your skin supple and hydrated afterwards.

The next mask I love using in the winter time because of the smell…but I can really use this all year round.

PETER THOMAS ROTH Pumpkin Enzyme Mask Enzymatic Dermal Resurfacer

(5 oz $58)

(Sephora.com)

  • Best suited for: All skin types except acneic. Resurfaces the skin to improve dullness, remove flaky skin, clean pores

This is a more intensive mask and exfoliator, perfect for those with flaky skin and also those with oily and congested skin. I would not recommend this one for those with active acne, because it is a little too aggressive and could spread bumps.

This smells like pumpkin pie! It is not too overwhelming, but I enjoy the sweet scent.

This mask utilizes pumpkin enzymes and alpha hydroxy acids to clean the surface of the skin and below. It reminds me of the Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant in the way it feels on the skin when rubbing off. I would not use this more than twice a week, but it will leave your skin smooth and looking brand new!

I love this last face mask, and this one is perfect for those of you who may be newer to masking and want something simple and easy to purchase.

NEUTROGENA Hydro Boost Hydrogel Mask

(1 oz $2- $3 depending on where you purchase)

neutrogena

  • Best suited for: All skin types, particulary dry. Moisturizes and plumps the skin

It has a slight perfumy smell, but this is the least potent of all the neutrogena sheet masks. I would recommend this one over the other two, Deep Clean and Radiance Boost.

This sheet mask is so refreshing! I keep it in my fridge, and pull it out when my skin is feeling unbalanced. This helps to soothe any dryness without feeling heavy. This is just a burst of water, just like the name says. Hyaluronic Acid is one of my favorite skin care ingredients!

What are some of your favorite face masks, and how often do you do it?

Do you feel like masks have never really made a difference for your skin? Try one of these and let me know how it does for you!
