Welcome back to my Summer 2021 Skincare series! It is no secret that we all enjoy less products on our face in the Summer heat. Waking up in the morning, splashing the face with water, and throwing on the best tinted sunscreen is the perfect routine for many of us. Makeup products with SPF just simply won’t cut it- so let’s talk the best tinted sunscreen dermatologists would recommend for keeping the skin healthy and glowing!
Why is SPF in Makeup not enough?
You need to apply the adequate amount of sunscreen in order to be protected from the sun’s rays. If you don’t apply enough, or reapply, and get it everywhere- then you are susceptible to sunburn and skin damage (no one can be 100% protected really, but we try to get as close as we can).
Dermatologists recommend SPF 30 or higher on a daily basis. So we must be sure to pick up a tinted sunscreen SPF 30 or more to be properly protected! You also need to use 1/4-1/2 teaspoon of product to cover the entire face and neck. I like using the two finger rule for easy measuring (see above). According to dermatologist Adeline Kikam, “You would need over 6-7 times the required amount of traditional sunscreen when entirely relying on just makeup for your sun protection” (source). You just simply aren’t getting the protection you need when only using makeup with SPF unless you are really piling it on, which most people don’t want to do with makeup.
Best Tinted Sunscreen for Oily Skin
Supergoop CC Screen SPF 50
A great option for more coverage without needing to layer on the products. Leaves the skin with a natural finish that looks glowy and fresh! It’s a 100% mineral formula, and comes in 15 shades to choose from.
Colorscience Sunforgettable Total Protection Face Shield Matte SPF 50
I love the summer time glow this gives me! This really is one of the best tinted moisturizers for more oily skin. It evens the skin tone and leaves your face matte but not feeling dry or tight. Colorscience also offers other finishes for different skin types – definitely check this brand out!
Here is my recent demo using this one:
Tinted Sunscreen Drugstore Finds
Cerave Tinted Sunscreen with SPF 30
We all love a good CeraVe moment! This SPF gives the skin a healthy, fresh glow without being heavy. I would recommend this for all skin types, especially normal/dry. Unfortunately, this will only be suitable to lighter skin tones.
La Roche-Posay Anthelios Mineral Tinted Ultra Light Sunscreen Fluid SPF 50
Although on the pricier end of drugstore, you can often find this sunscreen on sale. I love that this is an all mineral option with a more matte finish. This comes dermatologist recommended and perfect for all skin types (even sensitive).
Best Tinted Moisturizer for Dry Skin and Normal Skin Types
DRMTLGY Universal Tinted Moisturizer SPF 46
OMG. This sunscreen is everything! Packed full of antioxidants and skin loving ingredients, but also leaves the skin so glowy and natural. This will hydrate dry skin but is also oil-free for other skin types to try.
Saie Slip Tint Dewy Tinted Moisturizer SPF 35 Sunscreen
This provides sheer and dewy coverage that also includes licorice extract to help brighten the skin. I love the packaging of this! An easy pump that you can throw in your bag and reapply throughout the day.
EltaMD UV Daily Tinted Broad Spectrum SPF 40
I have been a long time fan of the original UV Daily sunscreen from EltaMD, and recently have discovered this cult favorite tinted version. By using hyaluronic acid and Vitamin E, this hydrates and gives the skin a fresh glow for summer.
Obaji Sun Shield Tint Broad Spectrum SPF 50
This tinted sunscreen comes in a warm and cool color option that is fit for a wider range of skin tones. This includes chemical and mineral sun filters to protect and enhance the skin. Obaji is pricey, but it comes with years of good reputation!
Best Tinted Sunscreen Wrap-Up
So, picture this: waking up in July, the smell of fresh cut grass, the birds are chirping and it’s already 80 degrees. Your morning routine consists of applying your favorite tinted sunscreen SPF 30 before running out the door for a full day in the sun! You’re protected from UV rays and looking glowy AF! Which of these recommendations are you going to be picking up?

I love the untinted version of that sunscreen as well! It is very hydrating and leaves you super glowy! I hope you get to try it soon.
